  • 1989 — After Project F1 was completed, this research was used to create Lexus. The brand set its sights on international markets – including a network of 81 new Lexus dealerships in the United States.
  • January 1989 — The first Lexus LS 400 debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Its robust 4.0L V8 gasoline engine and rear-wheel drive caused quite a stir in the mild-mannered luxury sedan market.
