Lexus is made by Toyota Motor Corporation. It is not a separate company, a joint venture, or a licensed badge. Lexus is Toyota’s luxury vehicle division, and Toyota owns it outright.
So the short answer is yes. But that answer leaves out the interesting part. What does Lexus actually share with Toyota? What does it not share? Drivers across Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, and Lake Elsinore ask us this constantly. Here is the full picture.
Toyota Motor Corporation owns Lexus outright. There is no separate legal entity called “Lexus Corporation.” The brand runs as a business unit inside Toyota. Design, engineering, manufacturing, and financial decisions all move through the same corporate structure in Toyota City, Japan.
Lexus still has real independence in the things customers touch. Design direction, dealership experience, and customer service are its own. What it does not do is duplicate Toyota’s factories, research budget, or supplier network. It draws on them instead. That is the whole strategy.
Lexus is a Japanese brand, and most Lexus vehicles are still assembled in Japan. They come from Toyota plants including the Tahara plant in Aichi and Toyota Motor Kyushu’s Miyata plant in Fukuoka.

Cambridge came first. When Lexus RX 330 production started there in 2003, it was the first time a Lexus had been built anywhere outside Japan. Kentucky followed in 2015 with the ES, the first Lexus assembled in the United States.
Does Lexus use Toyota platforms? Yes, and Lexus is open about it. The shared foundation is the Toyota New Global Architecture, or TNGA. It is a family of modular platforms built for a low center of gravity and a stiff structure.
Lexus tunes those platforms for quiet, composed road manners. Toyota tunes them to hit mainstream price targets. Same bones, different priorities.

GA-K sits under the crossovers and sedans. GA-F is a different animal. It is a body-on-frame truck architecture, the same bones Toyota uses for the Land Cruiser, Tundra, Tacoma, and Sequoia. That is why the GX and LX drive like real off-road machinery instead of tall wagons.

The RX and the Highlander show how far one platform can be pushed in two directions. Both ride on GA-K. Neither drives like the other.
The 2026 Highlander is built to move a family and their gear. The RX is built to move five people quietly.
Lexus stiffens the shared structure with extra high-strength adhesives and laser screw welding. It also offers Adaptive Variable Suspension on the F SPORT Handling and F SPORT Performance grades. That system adjusts damping at each wheel as the road changes. For a Menifee commuter on the Interstate 215 corridor, that tuning is the difference between transportation and decompression.
Capability does not vanish in the trade. When properly equipped, the RX 350 tows up to 3,500 pounds.

Takumi are Lexus master craftsmen who sign off on quality at critical production stages. They are rare. At the Miyata factory, only 19 of roughly 7,700 workers hold the title.
This is the first ownership question most Lexus shoppers ask. Lexus specifies premium unleaded gasoline rated 91 octane or higher for the RX lineup. EPA ratings are achieved on premium fuel, and performance drops without it. Most Toyota models are tuned for 87 octane regular unleaded.
